• Aged and non milking cows ,sterile or infertile cows are handed over to the Trust by kind and philanthropic minded persons who purchase them from milkmen, so that, they do not die at the hands of the butcher. Most of the cows in our shelter belong to this category. They are being taken care of by the institute till their last breath.

  • The Institute also accepts cattle with pelvic fractures and fractured limbs,as otherwise, they would be given away for slaughtering. The owners of such animals sell them to the butcher for monetary consideration.

  • The Institute brings to the notice of kind and philanthropic minded persons, the sale of such injured and incapacitated animals. They purchase the animals and hand them over to the Institute for taking care.

  • Most of the cattle which have come to the institute as infertile have conceived and have given calves after treatment and good feeding.

  • Cows are handed over for good to the institute by the owners themselves if they are not able to maintain them.

  • Indian Institute of Animal Welfare works all days of the year without holidays.

Providing shelter does not mean just giving feed, water and a roof, certain basic principles have to be followed in order to keep the animals healthy and comfortable, like

  • Giving the animals good feed in proper proportion according the size and health condition of the animals.

  • Tethering the animals with a long enough rope, so that it can sit, stand and move comfortably.

  • Providing proper veterinary care and vaccinating the animals periodically to protect them from diseases. Ticks and lice have to be removed to prevent diseases caused by blood parasites.

  • The Trust has succeeded its efforts to bring about a change of heart and attitude in the minds of milkmen, who now voluntarily hand over their cows to us while previously, the cows were given away to be slaughtered.

  • The Trust also takes care of abandoned pets likes, dogs, cats and birds in a limited way, through its main focus is on cattle.
